Favorite thing about CPT:

I love the very encouraging and helpful environment, including the wonderful people/ coworkers.

Favorite intervention area:
My favorite patient population to work with are children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. While they may have complex communication needs or multiple processes present at one time, I truly enjoy connecting with them and seeing their progress over time. Never a dull moment. Otherwise, focusing on phonological processes and articulation.

Why Speech Therapy?
Communication has been a big part of my life being in theater, choir, and public speaking. I have always been drawn to other languages and cultural differences. I also have a 6 year old niece that is autistic and a Gestalt learner. I want to be able to help others use their own voice (in any form) to advocate for themselves at home and in the community.

What I wish more people knew about Speech Therapy:
I wish more people knew about the scope of our practice. That we can help with cognition, swallowing, and communication in all forms. Usually it is a multi-faceted approach.
Also, play-based therapy can be evidence-based practice. We are working on goals while incorporating fun activities.

Outside of CPT:
I have two children (6yo girl and 1 1/2 yo boy) that I try to spend time with as much as possible. I have spent over half of my daughter’s life in school and I try to fill our spare time with activities, play dates, and family time. My family lives out of state, but my in-laws are all close and a huge support to my little family. I love singing and the arts in general. I haven’t performed in a musical or acted in almost a decade, but I plan to join the philharmonic choir again and perform with them. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and most outdoor activities that don’t include a ton of bugs.
