Karen Lawson

PT, MSPT

Role:

Physical Therapist

Year I joined CPT:

2005

Favorite thing about CPT:

I love the family friendly atmosphere that extends from the families that allow us to work with their children all the way to our own families. We have the freedom to work around the activities of our children and we get to share in the milestones of the children and families we serve.

Favorite intervention area:

I love working with babies! I have treated many children with torticollis and plagiocephaly. I love seeing the progress that they make.

Why physical therapy?

When I was 12 years old, I broke my arm and was in a cast for 12 weeks. I didn’t even know physical therapy was an option and it took over 6 months for me to get full movement and strength back in my arm. Once I found out about physical therapy and all the good it could do – I knew that’s what I wanted to do to help kids like I wish I had been helped.

Outside of CPT:

My husband is a veterinarian, so we always seem to have at least half a dozen pets in our house. We have 3 children ranging in age from 22 to 16. My spare time is spent with my family at my kids’ activities, traveling, or cooking for my family.

What I wish more people knew about physical therapy:

Just because your child needs physical therapy doesn’t mean you have done anything wrong as a parent. As a parent you can do all the right things and your child can still need therapy.
